Editors Best Article Award Announced for Health Data Marketplace Using Blockchain Technologies

Blockchain in Healthcare Today (BHTY), a leading publication in DLT and innovation in healthcare is delighted to announce the recipient of the prestigious BHTY Annual Editors’ Best Article Award. The distinguished honor has been awarded to Mohamed Maher and Imtiaz Khan, of Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK, for their outstanding research article titled “From Sharing to Selling: Challenges and Opportunities of Establishing a Digital Health Data Marketplace Using Blockchain Technologies,” published in Volume 5, 2022.

Maher and Khan’s article explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health data sharing, highlighting the underutilization of valuable biological and biomedical data, despite the widespread use of electronic health records (EHR) and wearable digital devices. The authors shed light on the legislative constraints, traditional siloed data management systems, and the lack of Incentivization models that hinder the efficient sharing of health data, proposing a paradigm shift in data sharing. Authors advocate for the creation of a digital health data marketplace (DHDM) that leverages financial Incentivization to promote widespread sharing and utilization of health data. Additionally, they analyze the legal considerations within the European Union and other countries, and investigate the socioeconomic impact of the DHDM on stakeholders in the short, medium, and long terms.
