Rev. Michael H. Lavery’s Historical Fiction Novel Soon to Exhibit at Printers Row Lit Fest
The Printers Row Lit Fest takes place in a historical part of Chicago where the works of many American authors had their humble beginnings. Today, Rev. Michael Lavery joins the ranks of those authors with his historical fiction novel “Lucius: A Soldier’s Journey.” His book will soon be displayed at the event, about a Roman soldier seeking answers to his inner turmoil.
“This is the story of a man, tormented from defending the very empire he had grown to find repulsive and unjust. Like his father before him, he searches for an answer he was not sure could be found.”
Every year, the Printers Row Lit Fest celebrates a particular part of Chicago with a longstanding history with American authors. Throughout the decades, it has been where many newspapers, books, and novels have had their first runs.
Today, authors like Rev. Michael H. Lavery carry on that literary spirit as they display their first novels during the event. In Lavery’s case, he has arranged an exhibit of his first book “Lucius: A Soldier’s Journey.” Its story follows Lucius, a high-ranking Roman officer, during the Empire’s supposed peace and prosperity. He has borne the burden of his family’s powerful military lineage. His father, too, was an officer of great renown, and his ancestors were said to have been the very first of Rome’s martial defenders.
Despite this, he also bears the more significant burden of an inner conflict. When he was young, his father secretly passed on his ideas and philosophies that seemed almost treasonous while going against the grain of Rome’s culture of conquest. He eschewed slavery, doubted the supremacy of the Empire, and confided in him his anguish over his oath to serve its military.
These memories would soon define the young Lucius. For as he reached the age of ten, his father perished in battle. Long into his career, he shares the same problem and is far from the answer. However, things may change as he receives orders for a new assignment.
Visitors to the Printers Row Lit Fest will have a chance to learn how Lucius’ quest for answers ends by checking out Rev. Lavery’s book when it goes on display. It can be found at the ReadersMagnet exhibit on September 9–10, 2023, at Printers Row Park in the South Loop neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The book is available on both Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
