14th Floor secure first Channel 4 commission
Scotland’s Most Luxurious Railway to take Channel 4 viewers on board the iconic Royal Scotsman
Channel 4 has commissioned a new series from 14th Floor through the broadcaster’s Diverse Indie Fund. The four-part series will follow Alan Cumming as he embarks on a trip of a lifetime on board the Royal Scotsman, the iconic train that takes guests on one of the world’s greatest rail journeys.
In each episode viewers will be able to follow the train on a particular leg of its journey as it takes guests and viewers on a grand tour of Scotland, taking in the country’s rich history, landscape, and culture.
With behind-the-scenes access to Belmond’s Royal Scotsman team this series will capture the round the clock work necessary to deliver luxury to the train’s on-board guests, all while the train races across the majestic Scottish landscape.
Experiencing what it is like to be a passenger on this opulent adventure Alan will travel the length of the journey, disembarking the train at its various stops to take part in local activities and sharing the breath-taking landscape and wildlife Scotland has to offer.
Alan said, “I am a Royal Scotsman super fan and each trip I’ve taken aboard has been magical and memorable, so I’m delighted to get the chance to share the magic with Channel 4 viewers.”
14th Floor’s Dave Donald said, “We are over the moon to be working with the hugely talented Alan Cumming on our debut series for Channel 4. We can’t wait so take viewers on this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime luxury journey across Scotland. We’re really thankful to the brilliant Deborah and Jo who have backed us every step of the way"
Deborah Dunnett, Commissioning Editor, Channel 4 said, “I’m so pleased to be looking after 14th Floor’s first Channel 4 commission. It’s a beautiful piece of access and given Alan’s already a huge fan of these railways, there’s no one better to go behind the scenes and bring it all to life for our viewers”.
Scotland’s Most Luxurious Railway was commissioned by Channel 4’s Deborah Dunnett with Head of Daytime & Features, Jo Street. The series is directed by George Scott and produced by Dave Donald & Scott Given. Deep Sehgal is Executive Producer for Motion Content Group.
