Self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet exhibited Elisabeth Schalij’s children’s book “Markel The Magnificent: Who is Out There?” at the 2023 LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience (LLX). The event took place from January 27 to 30, 2023, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
At LibLearnX, library professionals and book authors participated in a conference experience that offered ultimate learning benefits. Participants were inspired and motivated by the chance to learn, network, and celebrate stories.
The character of “Markel the Magnificent” is based on an elderly, reclusive neighbor who, following the loss of his wife, completely cut himself off from society. He met the younger generations after accepting the author’s invitation to relocate to Texas. Through one of her acquaintances, “the young dragon,” the character could travel throughout Europe, which boosted his spirit to the point where he started being gregarious and outgoing.
Eventually, he moved to a nursing home where he happily connected with the staff and residents through his stories. Talking about his past as a sculptor and his experiences during World War II gave him the peace and freedom he deserved when his time came.
Elisabeth Schalij’s book is replete with timeless and relevant lessons that will teach its readers essential values in life. It is a children’s book that deserves a place in every school library.
