American Express Canada Simplifies Toronto Commuting with Tap to Pay on TTC

TORONTO – WEBWIRE

American Express Canada is proud to launch tap to pay on TTC as part of its commitment to make transit payments simple and seamless.

Cardmembers can now enjoy the convenience of tapping their contactless-enabled American Express Card, including a mobile wallet or watch linked to their Card, to pay for adult fares on eligible PRESTO devices at TTC trains, streetcars and buses. They can also use their American Express Card to purchase fares or load PRESTO cards at PRESTO vending machines or online.

“We’re enhancing commuting with the launch of tap to pay on TTC, providing our Cardmembers the everyday convenience they crave while offering additional avenues to earn rewards,” said Kerri-Ann Santaguida, Vice President and General Manager of Merchant Services at American Express Canada. “This partnership marks another milestone in our network’s expansion, and another way we’re supporting our Cardmembers’ daily spending needs.”

“We are thrilled to offer expanded payment options on the TTC,” said Rick Leary, Chief Executive Officer of TTC. “The addition of debit and credit card payment for adult fares on all TTC buses, streetcars, and at fare gates, gives customers more choice and convenience when they travel. Tapping on with a debit or credit card is a feature we know our customers want, and will help make their commutes easier.”

This expansion follows American Express’ successful partnership with Metrolinx in 2022, which brought contactless payment to GTA Commuters on GO Transit and UP Express.

Amex Cardmembers can also experience the convenience of tap to pay on Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, MiWay, Oakville Transit and York Region Transit. They have been able to tap to pay on TransLink, Vancouver’s public transit system, since 2019.

“We’re delighted to bring TTC customers another option when paying their fare with the addition of American Express payment on PRESTO devices,” said Barclay Hancock, Chief Payments Officer at Metrolinx. “Starting August 15, riders travelling throughout the GTHA will be able to use the card of their choice when taking transit, making it easier for people to travel across the region.”
