Kecia Moore Jones Shared a Bitter-Sweet Story of Acceptance and Family at the 2023 San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books

The children’s book “They Called Me Zane” by Kecia Moore Jones presented a tear-jerking story at the 2023 San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books, which took place at the University of San Diego, San Diego, CA, last August 19, 2023.

“They Called Me Zane” is about a German Shepherd named Zane, who passed away and transitions into her new world – heaven. While in heaven, she meets Jesus and shares her experiences on Earth with her family.

Although Zane’s family misses her, she wants them to be reassured that she is happy, grateful, and blessed for their time together. Zane loves them tremendously, but she is at peace in heaven. It is a beautiful place, where the scenery is gorgeous and the colors are bright. The areas in heaven allow her to run for miles yet never feel alone. As she takes in heaven and all its charm, enchanting splendor, and grandeur, she realizes there is no other place that she would rather be. She reminds herself that new hellos do not make her forget about the old goodbyes.

“They Called Me Zane” is fully illustrated and colored. It allows the young readers to get engaged with the story as they follow the tale as told by the main character. It teaches the young readers a lesson about death and acceptance that pets can also pass through the realm of the living on the way to heaven.

Author’s Biography
Kecia Moore Jones is a California native, the proud daughter of Ronald Moore and Joan Moore. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Canyon University. She holds an Associate degree from Barstow Community College. Kecia has spent most of her adult life working in leadership roles. Her enthusiasm and appreciation for life and people continue to drive and support those around her to do their best. Kecia has two siblings, a sister, and a brother. She has been married to her husband, Alex, for thirty years. Together, they have four children, all serving in the United States Military. Kecia and her husband also have two granddaughters, and for eleven years of their union, they had one dog and they called her Zane.

Kecia enjoys the opportunity to motivate, encourage, and positively interact with people from all walks of life, with Jesus as her inspiration. Her hobbies include reading, writing, and watching documentaries. She also loves learning about different cultures and traveling. Her wish is that this book will give peace to those left behind when their loved ones move from this realm to the next. Prior to writing this book, she had been thinking how wonderful it would be if people can hear Zane’s story and have peace in knowing, one day, that they just mat meet her. Then, they too can call her Zane.
