Set against the backdrop of a California summer, where school is out, and the promise of adventure beckons, “Missy Goes To MiSSiSSiPPi” tells the story of Missy, a 7-year-old girl who takes on the responsibility of caring for her tired and crying younger brother during their long journey. With creativity and youthful resilience, Missy turns the challenges of babysitting into a playful game, even managing to charm the occasional strangers with her infectious spirit.

In Biloxi, Missy and her mother were picked up by Tony at the airport. As their sick Grandfather Percy’s health improves, they explore Biloxi’s Back Bay. Missy encounters a curious frog. She names him, “Old Sad Eyes” and becomes very affectionate with him. Missy envisions him as a prince searching for his princess.

After Grandfather Percy’s recovery, Missy must return Old Sad Eyes to the place that she found him. Her Mother continues to make plans for the three of them to return home to California. Old Sad Eyes remains a constant source of joy and wonder in Missy’s life.

The farewell is bittersweet as Missy kisses her beloved pet frog goodbye, watching as he hops away with his “old sad eyes.” She can’t help but dream of the happiness they would have shared as prince and princess.

“Missy Goes To MiSSiSSiPPi” is a touching and beautifully written story that captures the importance of family, adventure, and the bonds that transcend distance. Missy’s unforgettable journey in Biloxi will surely enthrall readers of all ages.
