MaryAnn Milton Butterfield Signed Copies of Her Children’s Book at the 2023 Printers Row Lit Fest

ReadersMagnet joined the 2023 Printers Row Lit Fest, which was held on September 9-10, 2023, at the Printers Row Park, Chicago, IL. The event is the largest free outdoor literary showcase in the Midwest and a special event for book lovers, featuring over 100 authors worldwide. ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and marketing company, organized the book signing session of MaryAnn Milton Butterfield at the event on September 9, 2023. Butterfield signed copies of her award-winning book for children, “Don’t Call Me That! My Name is Michael.”

“Don’t Call Me That! My Name is Michael” is a story of elementary-age bullies and victims and how they develop from young children not understanding the difference between positive and negative behavior. Readers will witness how Michael, an Asian-American new to the community, reacts to harassment from a schoolmate and how Michael and his antagonist play a vital role in each other’s social development.

Butterfield’s book brings awareness to positive vs. negative behavior and aids students in developing inclusive relationships and social skills for a lifetime. She believes that young children must learn the difference between “having fun” and often unintended “bullying behavior,” and the victims must know that reporting their fears is not “tattling.” An encounter with a distressed child led her to write her book.

“Don’t Call Me That! My Name is Michael” can start a dialogue between students, parents, and school personnel. Working together, the students can share the responsibility for a safe and welcoming environment at their school.
