About the Author
Bryan Ryman was born in a small town in Southern England in 1933, the year Adolf Hitler came to power, so he experienced the whole of World War II in all its fury. For those born to an unmarried mother like him, it was customary in those times for the child to be shunned and hidden. For most of his early life, he was a sad, emaciated child but really got it together in his early teens and totally changed his life. At 13, he said to himself, “…If I’ve been dealt Lemons then, indeed, I have to make Lemonade…” and he’s been drinking it ever since.
At 76, now living in Hollywood, California, he can look back on an interesting and unusual life. As a kid, he always wanted to be an actor, but his family decided to train him in the family business of making clothes. He became a fashion designer at the age of 17, then a dancer, choreographer, night club writer/performer, and lyricist. He came to the USA as a choreographer with the UK movie star Diana Dors in 1960 and knew it was home.
Since then, he worked 35 years as a film/TV production designer (see imdb.com) and now he has settled into a great cottage in a West Hollywood Courtway with 2 cats…and he writes.
His book, “Spirit Hollow,” a new way of looking at Mother Earth, is published on Amazon Kindle, and his memoirs, “Born a Bastard, Jewish and Gay,” will be published soon. His screenplay musical, “Behind The Curtain,” based on a true story about one of the foremost cabaret families in Berlin 1933, is being considered for production.
He feels that all the setbacks he’s had in his life were there to strengthen him. So now he’s having a great time living in the moment, which is wonderful.
