AirAsia Philippines, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, and GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation personnel joined hands to kick off the week-long celebration of AirAsia Safety Day in Cebu

Highlighting the importance of safety as a core priority in airline operation, AirAsia Philippines, Asia’s leading Low-Cost Airline, spearheaded its week-long celebration of Safety Day in one of its biggest hubs outside Metro Manila - the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ricky Isla along with Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) Operations Department Manager John Paul Valle, MCIAA Safety Management System Head Engr. Joel Malate and GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) Head of Safety, Quality and Environment Samuel Elle officials engaged AirAsia Philippines employees and other airport stakeholders on a “walk-through inspection” at the ramp to highlight the importance of foreign object debris (FOD).

FODs are any foreign objects that do not belong in the aircraft and can injure ground personnel or damage airplanes. These include rocks, tools and equipment parts, trash, and broken pavements, which can cause engine damage, tire damage, and structural damage.

“The safety of our guests and everyone working in the airport is AirAsia Philippines’ number one priority. Our On-time Performance (OTP) is also highly dictated by the safety of our aircraft and the airport we are flying from and to. The FOD walk will help refresh the knowledge and expertise of our Allstars and other airport personnel in identifying even the smallest hazards that can affect all our operations,” Mr. Isla said.

Mr. Isla said the week-long Safety Day will also be extended at Terminals 2 and 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) where the airline operates domestic and international flights. “We expect the influx of essential and leisure travelers flying for the long Undas vacation beginning next week. We are beefing up safety along with other existing pre-flight procedures to make our guests’ travel experience comfortable and seamless,” he added.

In line with this year’s observance of All Saints and All Souls Day, and the long weekend, AirAsia reminds guests to allocate ample time before their estimated time of departure to make their flight more convenient and hassle-free.

Stay updated with the latest travel advisories, guidelines, and booking options through the airasia Superapp, its official website (www.airasia.com) and social media channels. Guests are also reminded to comply with the respective government regulations and travel requirements to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey.
