Jonea Mounsey’s Memoir of an Adventurous RN Exhibited at the Printers Row Lit Fest Exhibit 2023
Plenty of memoirs were on display during this year’s Printers Row Lit Fest, a Chicago book event that commemorates the memory of the city’s once-bustling publishing hub. For those looking for inspiration from daring and adventurous lives, they can find a great example in Jonea Mounsey. Her book, “I Choose the Moon,” tells an incredible story of how one woman escapes an increasingly oppressive marriage and even bring her four children along.
"I Choose the Moon is a story of adventure, passion, and overcoming obstacles. Jonea’s memoir often feels like a work of fiction, as it is astonishing that one person has crammed so much living into one life." – Ryan Murphy
The Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 was teeming with book exhibits, and no doubt, plenty of them had stories of adventure, drama, and the pursuit of personal callings. But for Jonea Mounsey’s memoir “I Choose the Moon,” plenty of readers had found all three. The book was exhibited with support from ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company.
To the many who know her, Mounsey is one physically active grandmother who loves hiking, outdoor camping, and exploring nature while staying fit in all occasions. She’s taken part in a number of ultra races and has travelled to at least three continents.
But as much as she loved travel, her memoir shows how life wasn’t always so leisurely.
“I Choose the Moon” covers over twenty years of her life as an RN working and travelling in some of the most challenging medical environments. But for a time before that, she also talks about an increasingly restrictive life growing up.
Born in one of the rural farm towns of Indiana, Mounsey always longed to travel the world but gradually found herself constrained by the life her community desired her to live. Things seemed to have worked out at first. But when her marriage took a very ugly turn with an increasingly controlling husband, she made a big break for it.
More surprisingly still was that she took four of her then young kids with her for the journey.
The book tells all about the many countries she’s worked in since then. She was involved in a desert station all the way out in the Iraqi desert. There was a time where she worked as a flight nurse and then a ship nurse. Overall, the book does not hesitate to tell where Mounsey has been and where else she plans to go.
Jonea Mounsey is already working on her next book (with details and updates regularly shared on her website).
“I Choose the Moon” is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
