Former U.S. Army SEAC John Wayne Troxell Shares the Secret of His PME Hard Program in Newly Published Bio
In the U.S. military, the most senior position available to a non-commissioned officer is that of the SEAC. And when John Wayne Troxell had first enlisted, he never expected to go that high up. However, he did, and he learned plenty of powerful lessons on leadership, resilience, and achievement. Those lessons have also just recently been published via a biography titled “Surrender or Die!: Reflections of a Combat Leader.”
“The best NCO leader of a generation. If there were better leaders in our Army, I certainly hadn’t them in my 36 years of service. SEAC ® John Wayne Troxell exhibits the perfect blend of discipline, physical fitness, mental toughness, loyalty, intelligence, and courage. In the toughest, most dire situation, you could count on him out front leading by example. The U.S. Army broke the mold after minting SEAC® John Troxell.” BG Jon S. Lehr, US Army Retired
When John Wayne Troxell was only a young man who had just finished high school, he was just like any other recruit looking to enlist in the U.S. military.
He wouldn’t have believed it if someone told him he would eventually have the attention of the Army’s Joint Chiefs of Staff. However, that’s one way to tell his story.
Troxell is a former SEAC, the most senior position a non-commissioned officer can obtain in the Army. It’s a place that he achieved only after many years of fighting alongside his fellow soldiers through some of America’s most high-stakes combat operations during the turn of the 20th century.
It was a career that spanned over 30 years and taught him many lessons regarding leadership and resilience, as well as the challenges to the physical and mental well-being that stick even with the best of them long after the mission’s over.
Many of these lessons would then go on to be used by Troxell in the development of his PME Hard program (which stood for Physically, Mentally and Emotionally Hard). It’s a program that has now served several companies and multiple businesses across America.
In recent months, others could now find the ideas Troxell teaches in the program via his recently published biography. The book talks about his background, from his humble beginnings as a kid in Iowa to how his PME principles informed his work as SEAC.
Today, John Wayne Troxell continues to share his work and experiences (with information on his business consulting and leadership workshop services readily available on his website). His book “Surrender or Die!: Reflections of a Combat Leader” is available on Amazon.

Author Bio
John Wayne Troxell joined the US Army after graduating from high school and served for almost 38 years culminating his service as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (SEAC). His service included five combat tours to include the combat parachute assault in Panama during Operation Just Cause, Operation Desert Shield/Storm in Iraq, two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and one in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Troxell created the term and program PME Hard (physically, mentally, and emotionally hard) to maximize battlefield performance and save lives and created the E Tool Nation, based off of his inspirational ultimatum to terrorists of “Surrender or Die” or face death by bombing, getting shot or if need be, beaten with entrenching tools! In his post military life, he serves multiple businesses as a consultant, ambassador, or advisor. He and his wife Sandra have been married for 39 years.
