“The Raptor’s Grasp: An Abelove & Bradley Mystery” by Freya Smallwood was displayed by ReadersMagnet at the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair.

ReadersMagnet, an esteemed platform for independent authors, displayed “The Raptor’s Grasp: An Abelove & Bradley Mystery” by Freya Smallwood at the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair. The world’s largest book trade fair occurred on October 18-22, 2023, at the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Freya Smallwood’s book follows a riveting mystery case of two detectives. With the US economy in meltdown, revelers at a “Black Saturday” celebration are incredulous when the death of a guest is pronounced murder. Absorbed in his grief, widowed Dr. Bradley assists police and socially reengages. Detective Tor Abelove’s best witness is a young scientist brain-damaged by drowning during a research cruise. His father, who works as a waiter at the party, is detained — until Mexican police report the beached corpse of a second guest.

As the detective’s case thickens, the mystery spins into arguments about the survivability of sea life. He fears that the killer he seeks is someone whom in conscience he cannot arrest. Tor never imagined that enlisting his gentle wife in martial arts to “make her safe” would risk her life. The book has the right balance of thrill and mystery, capturing the imagination and interest of those who love a well-written novel. “The Raptor’s Grasp: An Abelove & Bradley Mystery” by Freya Smallwood is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Earning an MFA in playwriting, Freya Smallwood won the Lucille Ball Award for Comedy and also received the honor of having her thesis play produced in UCLA’s theater season. Remaining in essence a tragedian dramatist, she migrated to fictional murder with the Cop&Doc Mystery Novels featuring Detective Tor Abelove and Dr. Bradley. When research neuroscientist Bradley, a grieving widower, observes to a friend that Tor “suffers for the truth in a way I haven’t for a long time,” he touches part of the explanation for his unlikely friendship with an uneducated former surfing star.

First published of the series is The Raptor’s Grasp, in which their collaboration as crime solvers becomes comfortable to both, while they progress toward a father-son relationship. The Cop&Docs are set in the beguiling coastal city of make-believe Santa Christina, California.
