Schneider Electric announces latest climate research and renewed partnerships at COP28
Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has unveiled key insights from the Schneider Electric™ Sustainability Research Institute (SSRI) at the COP28 United Nations Climate Summit. The same way SSRI’s global climate research has outlined the untapped potential of electrification, energy efficiency and circularity, this latest independent study presents insights into how the Middle East can accelerate decarbonization as the region modernizes, as well as the decoupling between emissions and economic wealth. The resulting outcomes reduce carbon usage significantly.
The results of the study were presented at a high-level gathering on the sidelines of COP28, hosted by Schneider Electric’s CEO, Peter Herweck and Chairman, Jean-Pascal Tricoire, where over 100 leaders from business, industry, government, and civil society came together to foster stronger collaboration for an accelerated and fair energy transition. By sharing this data, Schneider Electric aims to raise awareness of solutions that are already available, yet not optimally implemented to maximize decarbonization and impact climate, economic and social progress.
“Growing ecosystem partnerships that support each other in the transition to Net Zero are going to be key moving forward,” said Herweck. “With the power of collaborative intelligence and technology, we can – and must – break through the status quo in pursuit of an inclusive and accelerated journey to sustainability. As an impact company and a pioneer of energy and digital transformation, Schneider Electric is committed to leading the way to the solution.”
The renewal of partnerships between the Schneider Electric Foundation and the Solar Impulse Foundation, and between Schneider Electric and the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the French NGO Atelier 21 were also announced.
Marking its 25th anniversary this year, Schneider Electric’s Foundation continues to empower all generations by creating educational and entrepreneurial opportunities that provide access to energy. This also helps Schneider meet its social commitments, including that of training 1 million people in energy management by 2025.
The foundation’s partnership with the Solar Impulse Foundation, led by the explorer Bertrand Piccard champions both the deployment and development of cleantech solutions. With the United Nations educational agency ITC and the Schneider Electric Foundation’s NGO partner Atelier 21, the company will continue to develop training schemes for entrepreneurs and small businesses invested in sustainability.
At the event, Gilles Vermot Desroches, Senior Vice-President of Corporate Citizenship at Schneider Electric stressed the importance of a fair transition and bringing everyone along, in particular young people and women. He highlighted the recent publication of an in-depth white paper on [url=https://www.se.com/ww/en/insights/sustainability/impact-company/gender-strategy-in-the-energy-transition.jsp"Gender Strategy in the Energy Transition: Empowering Women through Education & Entrepreneurship"[/url] to close the gender gap for a low-carbon energy future.
