2023 Global Refugee Forum: Join the pledges
The second Global Refugee Forum, set to take place from 13 to 15 December in Geneva, Switzerland, will bring together global leaders and stakeholders to support the implementation of the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees – ease pressures on host countries, enhance refugee self-reliance, increase access to third-country solutions, and improve conditions in countries of origin for return in safety and dignity.
UN-Habitat, the United Nations agency responsible for sustainable urbanization, works to improve the quality of life of refugees and host communities.
Along with UNHCR, UN-Habitat spearheads two multistakeholder pledge initiatives for the 2023 Global Refugee Forum. National and local governments as well as other stakeholders are encouraged to join the pledges.
Secure Housing, Land and Property Rights Multistakeholder Pledge
In partnership with UNHCR and the Norwegian Refugee Council, UN-Habitat works to better provide forcibly displaced women, children, and men with secure access to housing, land, and property towards sustainable return and reintegration, local integration, and other local solutions.
Climate Resilient, Sustainable Human Settlements Multistakeholder Pledge
In collaboration with UNHCR and the Government of Ethiopia, UN-Habitat mobilizes national and local governments, individuals, the private sector, NGOs, and international organizations to invest in integrated climate resilient human settlements for refugees and host communities.
Other pledges
UN-Habitat contributes to the multistakeholder pledge on Advancing Localisation in Displacement and Statelessness Responses as well as the UN Common pledge 2.0, committing to scale up its support to national and local governments to ensure integration of refugees in urban development plans and relevant sectoral policies, including those on housing and land.
The Global Refugee Forum serves as a call to action, encouraging collaboration for a future where refugees and host communities do not just survive but thrive.
