In-Depth Guidebook to 21st Century Philanthropy by Dr. Susan Aurelia Gitelson Displayed at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2023
The Guadalajara International Book Fair is both a massive publishing convention and a cultural festival for encouraging new ideas among visiting book lovers. For Dr. Susan Aurelia Gitelson, it’s an ideal venue to exhibit her book, which challenges the long-held belief that philanthropy is the domain of only the ultra-wealthy. Using the latest research and drawing from her own work in social sciences, Dr. Gitelson’s book shows how other income-earners can still help.
“Dr. Susan Gitelson has created an ambitious compendium of examples of philanthropy from names familiar to us all like Wendy Kopp, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates to those unknown at most. All donors share a desire to improve life and create equality of education opportunity for all. How the reader can do it is what Gitelson explains in clear and precise prose. This book is compelling reading for young and old and illuminates the path to helping others while enriching one’s own life.”
The Guadalajara International Book Fair 2023 brought together the works of many thought leaders in Guadalajara, Mexico, alongside those of pioneers from other parts of the world. This offered readers a wide range of books that shared inspiring ideas as well as new information that challenged widely held beliefs on many subjects.
For Dr. Susan Aurelia Gitelson, that subject is philanthropy and why her book, “Giving Is Not Just For The Very Rich: A How-to Guide for Giving and Philanthropy,” offers a much-needed guide in the area of charitable causes. The book was exhibited at the FIL with the help of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing company.
Dr. Gitelson has an extensive career both in business as well as supporting various programs in education and culture. She received her Ph.D. from Columbia University and serves on the Board of Advisers of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy. She is also a current member of the Board of Overseers of the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
In her book, she shares lessons from her experiences being involved with numerous charitable causes and programs. Her book goes to great lengths to present the biggest areas of philanthropy, such as religion, education, and higher education. It also categorizes the most reputable organizations in terms of their subject matter.
Another topic her book explores is how supporting such causes is more than just having the money and knowing who to give it to. She painstakingly details the importance of more direct involvement in boards and committees. Overall, for visitors who have always wanted to have a grounded understanding of philanthropy, Dr. Gitelson gives them a great start.
