Contributing to the 3-2 victory over the Hatters with a Player of the Match display, Palmer ensured the Blues concluded 2023 with a win following a brace and an assist at Kenilworth Road.

After opening the scoring, the 21-year-old’s second finish was nominated for the monthly prize with the winger showcasing incredible composure to maintain possession under pressure from a number of Luton players, before sliding the ball into the net and wheeling away to celebrate with the travelling fans.

His goal was the choice of the Chelsea supporters casting their votes on the club’s official app and website, taking 68 per cent of the poll.

In second place, with 19 per cent, was Mykhailo Mudryk’s leveller against Newcastle to take Carabao Cup quarter-final tie to penalties, where the Blues came out victorious and secured a place in the final four.

Elsewhere, Palmer’s goal against Sheffield United was voted joint-third alongside Lauren James’ curled effort, seeing off further competition from Enzo Fernandez, Harrison McMahon, Erin Cuthbert and Tyrique George to be chosen as the scorer of the best goal in December from across our men’s, women’s and Academy sides.

Congratulations Cole!
