In-Depth Guide to Rediscovering True Christian Joy by Rev. Robert Mendonca Slated for Exhibit at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2024
Every year, the L.A. Times Festival of Books celebrates the art of storytelling and the many authors behind the tales. These include a diverse range of faith backgrounds and no small number of professed religious writers like Rev. Robert Mendonca. For this year, he has arranged to exhibit his book “Joy for the Journey,” which explores the atmosphere of dourness in U.S. churches and what can be done about it.
“I probably shouldn’t give this a review yet as I haven’t read it, lol! But it was written by my priest and friend, who just passed away, and he was extremely intelligent, so I’m sure it will be a good read! I went to the funeral and ordered this book when I got home.” – Hanne G.
The L.A. Times Festival of Books 2024 is set to take place in just a few months, with authors from across America signing up for exhibits. They are all eager to showcase their works to the event’s many visitors.
Hundreds of books are expected to be displayed, each covering a wide range of hot-button issues on matters of science, politics, philosophy, and, of course, faith. Among these is a book by retired priest Rev. Robert Mendonca, who shares a belief that has become increasingly common in dioceses across the U.S.
The title of his book is “Joy for the Journey: The Royal Road In Time Of Distress,” and it confronts a persistent, pessimistic flavor of Christianity that has been a growing anomaly in the U.S. Church for over a decade. Fr. Bob served as a priest in the Diocese of Oakland after being ordained in 2000. Even before that, he had been active in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement since 1970.
Throughout it all, he has noticed the growing (and now very rooted) despair of his fellow churchgoers in the face of dismal headlines and joyless prayer routines. The purpose of his book is to invite fellow believers to rediscover the deep theological truths about Christian joy to both inspire and renew their spiritual perspective.
Fr. Bob’s book explores the meaning of genuine Christian joy, both in Scripture as well as in the evolution of language that molded Scripture’s development. On the other hand, he also offers plenty of practical advice for prayer meetings and how to properly view the challenges of the Church in the wider world.
Visitors to the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2024 can find “Joy for the Journey: The Royal Road In Time Of Distress” by Rev. Robert Mendonca displayed at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit at booth #225. The festival will be held on April 20-21, 2024, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA. The book is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and ReadersMagnet Bookstore.
