Strong Start to Year: Opel with Significant Sales Increase in Germany
- New car registrations up by 72.4 percent compared to January 2023
- Light commercial vehicle sales increase by 150 percent
German brand Opel has started the new year strongly on its home market. According to official data from the Federal Office for Motor Transport (KBA), the Rüsselsheim-based carmaker increased its new car registrations by an impressive 72.4 percent compared to January 2023. With 12,631 new registrations Opel achieved a passenger car market share of 5.9 percent (2023: 4.1 percent) and was the German brand with the strongest growth.
Opel also made significant year-on-year gains in light commercial vehicles. According to preliminary internal information, new registrations were up by 150 percent, giving the brand with the Blitz a market share of 8.0 percent.
Opel’s combined market share (light commercial vehicles and passenger cars) was at 6.1 percent in January 2024 (2023: 4.0 percent). Around 14,350 newly registered Opel vehicles represents an increase of 79 percent compared to the same month of 2023.
“Opel started the new year strongly in Germany with significant growth in both passenger car and light commercial vehicle sales. Our vehicles our well received by the customers. This is confirmation that we are on the right path,” said Patrick Dinger, the head of Opel in Germany.
