The self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet will display “30 Plays for Child Actors” by Gorman John Ruggiero at the 2024 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The literary festival will occur on April 20-21, 2024, at the University of Southern California Campus, Los Angeles, USA. The L.A. Times Festival of Books is one of the country’s most important book events. Held every April, the premier event brings together storytellers, artists, and publishers to celebrate the beauty of literature, arts, and culture.
Gorman John Ruggiero has been training child actors for over 35 years. In this collection of his plays, one will find a variety of works, including folktales, mythology, religious stories, and original plays that can help children learn important life lessons by acting them out on stage.
Ruggiero has extensive experience working with children on the autism spectrum, and many of his plays have been performed to great success by both typically developing children and those with autism. This collaborative process has helped enhance the communication skills of child actors and improve their understanding of autism. Through the rehearsal and performance process, many friendships have been formed as children learn about each other’s unique qualities and similarities.
In a world where effective communication is often lacking, Ruggiero believes that the performing arts can be a powerful tool for physical, emotional, and intellectual expression, which is crucial for success in personal and professional relationships. By helping children perform these plays, anyone can help advance this critical notion.
