Palmer named Carabao Cup Player of the Round
Cole Palmer has been named the Carabao Cup semi-final Player of the Round after his two goals against Middlesbrough helped steer us back to Wembley.
The England international continued his excellent run of form at the Bridge with two clinically taken goals in our 6-1 second-leg win over Boro, which has set up a showdown with Liverpool at Wembley later this month.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side trailed 1-0 after the away leg, but the Blues responded magnificently on home soil. An own goal from Jonny Howson brought us level in the tie before Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi both struck.
Palmer’s contribution then allowed Chelsea supporters to start making plans for Wembley. The 21-year-old caught the Boro defence napping to slot home coolly to make it 4-0 just before half-time.
He then added gloss to the scoreline in the 77th minute as he guided home a finish from inside the penalty area after good work by Conor Gallagher. A late goal from Noni Madueke rounded off the win.
Congratulations, Cole!
