Greg Hitchcock Set to Exhibit Newly Published Stories About Turning Around Stigma to a New Source of Hope at the LATFOB 2024

Many of the books that will be exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books tackle a number of difficult topics, such as mental health and the tragedies resulting from society’s neglect. For U.S. Army veteran and author Greg Hitchcock, it’s not simply enough to talk about them. That’s why he will be exhibiting his book “Stories of Stigma,” a collection of stories about stigmatized individuals whose struggles led to a new hope for many others like them.

“Psychiatric disorders account for 30% of non-fatal diseases yet in reality, they have threatened and taken so many lives. Here’s how we can combat the stigma and change this sad reality.”

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2024 is expected to have dozens of book exhibits tackling the modern challenges of mental health. These include hundreds of self-help books, testimonies, and books meant to increase awareness of the problem.

Greg Hitchcock may be just one more new author talking about the subject, but his recently published book, “Stories of Stigma: How to Overcome Shame to Live a Healthy Life,” aims to do all three.

The main focus of “Stories of Stigma” is how stigmatization only worsens the present-day mental health crisis. On the other hand, it’s also a collection of stories about individuals, movements, and organizations that decided to respond to that stigmatization in uplifting, positive ways, which transformed all those around them.

These include the origins of Morgan’s Message, a mental health advocacy group for student-athletes. Other stories include those who recognized the two-pronged attack of substance abuse and the stigmatization surrounding it, all before finding a solution that deals with both. Each chapter talks about the different forms that stigma takes, how to identify it, and ultimately counteract its clearly unhelpful impact on those who are already suffering.

All of these stories are combined from Hitchcock’s own experience with mental health stigma as well as his passionate advocacy against it in all its forms.

Readers who would like to learn more from his book can find it displayed at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit in at booth 225 during the 2024 L.A. Times Festival of Books. The literary festival will take place on April 20-21, 2024, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
