Oak Heart Lodge Proudly Joins The Project Healing Waters Family As An Established ‘PHW National Fly Fishing Retreat Destination’
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (‘PHWFF’), a reputable national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a 19-year legacy, is thrilled to announce a strategic alliance with the Oak Heart Lodge.
Nestled on an 11-acre secluded property with 400 feet of river frontage along the Muskegon River in Newaygo, Michigan, the Oak Heart Lodge extends its serene grounds to thousands of disabled veteran members and dedicated volunteers who champion the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing mission.
John Langford, CEO of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, expressed: “Throughout the decades, we’ve had the privilege of furnishing a diverse range of equipment and resources to Veterans and Volunteers confronting myriad physical and mental challenges. From day outings to extended stays, our national organization remains steadfastly focused on the essence of healing.”
“We owe our growth and resilience to the unwavering support of donors and partners like Peter Eardley and the Team at the Oak Heart Lodge, who provide a ’second home’ for America’s heroes amidst the majestic beauty of the land they pledged to defend. It’s with great pleasure that we designate Oak Heart Lodge as a premier PHWFF National Destination.”
Originating in 2005 as an initiative aiding wounded military personnel at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, particularly those returning from conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, Project Healing Waters has evolved dynamically, establishing its acclaimed program across Department of Defense (DOD) hospitals, Warrior Transition Units (WTU), Veterans Affairs medical centers, and clinics nationwide.
Strategically positioned amidst the convergence of numerous blue-ribbon rivers and streams in Michigan, Oak Heart Lodge offers a year-round haven for fishing enthusiasts, boasting Steelhead, Trout, Smallmouth Bass, and King Salmon. Since its inception, the dedicated staff at Oak Heart has been committed to providing America’s wounded Veterans with unparalleled angling experiences.
Peter Eardley, Chief Executive Officer of Oak Heart Lodge, remarked: “2024 heralds an exciting chapter for our Team as we expand our horizons with the esteemed Project Healing Waters organization. This year marks a significant milestone as our nationally recognized Lodge welcomes a greater number of Veterans from across the nation, embodying our status as a PHW National Destination. We eagerly anticipate a fruitful and enduring partnership with the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Team.”
