Times Festival of Books is an excellent opportunity to appreciate the beauty of literature and become engrossed in the world of books.
“Jungle Wild” is an enthralling collection of real-life stories from Joseph Coe, a missionary kid turned intrepid jungle explorer. Joseph’s playground was the vast, unpredictable Venezuelan jungle. He hunted, fished, and lived on the edge alongside his brother and indigenous friends, making memories that most can only dream of. But this paradise had its perils. Joseph’s tales of being hunted, escaping jaguars, engaging in wild cat showdowns, and navigating life-threatening scenarios will have the reader’s heart racing. Yet, it’s not all about the chase.
Joseph’s narrative is a symphony of contrasting emotions, from uproarious jaguar boat fights to the simple joys of fruit collecting. He paints a picture of survival and the profound connections one can forge with nature and its inhabitants. Each chapter of “Jungle Wild” gives a window into a different adventure from Joseph’s time in Venezuela. With every page, readers are transported to a world where every sound, shadow, and heartbeat counts – a world where one wrong animal call can tip the balance between life and death.
“Jungle Wild” is a ticket for those seeking adrenaline-packed escapades and invaluable life lessons from the heart of the wilderness. Dive in and experience a world where every day is an adventure, and every adventure is a lesson in humanity’s essence in Joseph M. Coe.

While he attended public school and pursued soccer in the U.S., the call of duty beckoned, leading him to the U.S. Army as an Airborne infantryman. Notably, he was part of the tumultuous period surrounding Bowe Bergdahl in Afghanistan. After concluding his service and earning a Bachelor’s from Spring Arbor University, Joseph now thrives in Michigan, managing a butcher shop and aiding in deer recovery with his loyal bloodhound, Tracy.
