“The biggest losers were the black men and the poor white men, and they became their worse emeries and began to hate the sight of each other, which reminded them of the Cousin’s War failure.” – Bobby Dan Cobbs, The Sharecropper’s Son.

Author Bobby Dan Cobbs partners with the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet to have his book “The Sharecropper’s Son” displayed at the 2024 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The literary and cultural festival will be held at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, on April 20-21, 2024.

The LA Times Festival of Books is an annual public festival celebrating community, literature, culture, and arts. Deemed as the largest literary festival in the U.S., the event has drawn around 150,000 visitors from around the world since 1996. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books hosts events that include performances and storytelling for children, author signings, panel discussions, and book awarding through the L.A. Times Book Prize.

“The Sharecropper’s Son” follows a black family living in the segregated South, challenging the norms of gearing toward an English professorship despite reading restrictions. The story is set in an era where the civil rights movement brought awareness to black Southerners. Learning about the movement, the blacks demanded equal rights. Follow the journey of a black family as they take on a road of challenges to fight for their rights as humans.

The book will be displayed at ReadersMagnet’s exhibit at the L.A. Times Festival of Books at booth #225. Visit the exhibit to check out the book’s display.

Author’s Biography:

Bobby Dan Cobbs is in the fourth generation of sharecroppers from Spring Hill, Alabama. Small farms are a lost way of growing their own food and raising their meat. When he left Alabama and moved to the city, he learned that he was different from city blacks; he talked differently and looked different, coming from the farm. They laughed at the way he talked and his Southern accent and thought that he was slow, stupid, and downright backward. He became a shadow.

He now lives in Maryland, and he wrote this book to remind America about her forgotten children who worked in the fields so they could have food on their tables. He hoped America would read his book and remember the sharecroppers. When integration came to Spring Hill, Alabama, and pushed the sharecroppers into towns and cities, they became a community of shadows.
