Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir returns to Sky Arts on 17th April

WEBWIRE

The second series of Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir is set to air from 17th April on Sky Arts. This follows the huge success of series one, which was the most-watched new show for Sky Arts in 2023.

This spring, Jim Moir and his wife Nancy will continue their ornithological adventure, journeying to a different area of the UK in each episode to spot and paint the unique species of birds native to that region. Along the way they meet ornithologists, local artists, and a couple of Jim’s famous friends who will have a go at creating a bird-inspired artwork. Celebrity guests for series 2 include: Justin Hawkins, Mary McCartney, Nitin Ganatra, Stephen Mangan, Joe Pasquale, Ronni Ancona and Imelda May.

Jim and Nancy’s upcoming adventures will see them visit Chatsworth Estate to spot dippers, take a trip to Battersea Power Station to see an iconic pair of nesting peregrines and search for puffins in their wild habitat of the Antrim Coast – plus much more.

They’ll also explore an array of artistic techniques during their travels, creating linocuts of stilts and golden plovers in Wrexham, learning about local community project The Hide Sculpture in Fingal, Dublin and using traditional Chinese ink and calligraphy brushes to paint Loch Mallochie in the Scottish Highlands.

Phil Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts and Entertainment said: “We’re delighted to welcome back Jim and Nancy Moir for a second series of Painting Birds - a real treat that explores our beautiful airborne wildlife through the prism of Jim’s exquisite paintings”.

Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir was commissioned by Phil Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts and Entertainment for Zai Bennett, Managing Director of Content for Sky UK and Ireland. The Commissioning Editor for Sky is Barbara Lee.

The series is produced by Drum Studios, part of Omnicom Media Group, headed by Andy Holland. Danny Carvalho and Sadia Butt are the executive producers.

Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir will air from 17th April on Sky Arts, Freeview Channel 36 and NOW.
