“Mixed Reality” Update Coming to Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs on March 26
Slingshot birds and topple towers in your own environment with Resolution Games’ seventh mixed reality title
“Being able to interact with and immerse yourself in the virtual worlds and characters of your favorite games mixed in with your living room environment is incredibly impactful and surreal. And, we couldn’t think of better characters to welcome into the realm of early mixed reality games than Red, Chuck, Bomb & the Blues.”
Those pesky pigs are at it again in Resolution Games’ award-winning title, Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs, a digitally immersive take on Rovio Entertainment’s much loved mobile games. This time, you can send the birds flying in mixed reality (MR)! The studio today announced that a substantial update will be coming to the game on March 26 to bring the feathered friends into a new spatial computing realm with its “MR mode” update for Meta Quest and Pico.
“There has been a lot of chatter lately in VR and spatial computing about the impact of mixed reality on the future of games,” said Paul Brady, president and co-founder of Resolution Games.
The “MR Mode” update will feature:
- Passthrough - Place scenes from Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs into your own real-world environment! With room mapping capabilities, players can manually move the level they are playing to a convenient location of their choosing whether it be floor, table or elsewhere, while falling objects - such as blocks, pigs, birds, etc. - can bounce off of and hit real world surfaces in your environment.
- Hand-tracking - Players will have the option to set their controllers aside and use their actual hands to hold the slingshot, fling birds, resize and rotate your playspace, and more.
The newest “MR mode” version of Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs was created with the latest generation of MR devices in mind, allowing Resolution Games to take advantage of room mapping and hand tracking as well as higher device performance that wasn’t accessible on the studio’s earlier mobile version of Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs that may come to mind when some players see this for the first time. The studio’s history with the game across Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs and Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs mixed with the fact that this is the studio’s seventh title to offer mixed reality/spatial computing capabilities (Demeo, Demeo Battles, Racket Club, Spatial Ops, Blaston and Game Room) marks an exciting milestone for the industry.
Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs is available to play for $19.99 across several platforms including Meta Quest Store, Pico, PlayStation VR2 and Steam, and the “MR mode” update will be available for free to owners on Meta Quest and Pico.
