Quizizz Launches First-Of-Its-Kind Accommodation Profiles, Removing Barriers to Learning and Meeting Individual Student Needs
The platform that already saves teachers an average of three and a half hours per week releases new tools that will further accelerate lesson planning while unlocking crucial accessibility features for 7.3 million students nationwide
Quizizz, the student engagement platform trusted by teachers in 90% of U.S. schools, today announces the launch of Accommodation Profiles, a first-of-its-kind tool that unlocks differentiation at scale for educators and school districts. Educators can now use Accommodation Profiles to meet students’ wide array of learning needs quicker and easier than ever before, while ensuring their lessons are accessible and IEP and 504 plan compliant.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 15% of public school students aged three to 21 received special education and/or related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in the 2021-2022 school year. And while edtech prominence has grown vastly in classrooms with nine in 10 teachers leveraging technology today, largely driven by the pandemic, solutions haven’t kept up with accessibility for all students.
But it’s not just students covered by IDEA that need more support. Nearly half of all students began the 2022-2023 school year behind grade level in at least one academic subject. This is a significant increase from pre-pandemic levels when 36% of students were below grade level.
With the rising need to tailor lessons to reach students at varying levels in a single classroom, teachers are left to create multiple versions of lessons. This can add hours of extra preparation and planning to their average 54-hour work weeks and still doesn’t guarantee every student’s needs will be met.
By building in accommodations, students can feel included and have equitable learning experiences and teachers can seamlessly incorporate these accommodations without adding hours of customization for every lesson. As edtech tools become a larger component of everyday learning in the classroom, it’s increasingly important that technology is accessible to all learners.
“Accommodation Profiles has been a game-changer in my teaching journey. It has significantly streamlined my planning and preparation processes, allowing me to tailor my lessons more effectively to meet the diverse needs of my students,” shared Sara Rodriguez, a 5th-grade science and social studies teacher in Texas. “The impact has been immediate and empowering for my students. I’ve witnessed increased engagement and confidence in their learning as these new teaching tools level the playing field for all learners in my classroom.”
Accommodation Profiles allow students to take control of their learning, empowering them to keep pace and meet their individual learning needs without being obvious to peers. Teachers can discreetly assign specific accommodations to some students in the class, enhancing the accessibility of their Quizizz lessons with features like:
- Read Aloud
- Extra time
- Reduce answer options
- Allow multiple attempts
- Dyslexia font face
The feature set for Accommodation Profiles will continue to grow ahead of back-to-school 2024, adding tools such as translating questions, speech-to-text response, bilingual and picture dictionaries, and auto-adjusting for reading and difficulty levels. In addition to serving students who are below grade level, this new solution will be a critical equalizer for the five million English learners across America.
“Since the early days of the edtech industry, there has been an unrealized promise for personalized learning, and today it’s harder than ever for teachers to support the needs of every student,” expressed Ankit Gupta, CEO and co-founder of Quizizz. “We’re proud to bring vital accommodation tools into classrooms that will have meaningful impacts for millions of students across the U.S. and beyond.”
This release comes on the heels of Quizizz AI, a new way for teachers to supercharge their lesson planning, cutting down on the preparation needed to build a lesson.
