Today, Italy’s National Day, to commemorate the birth of the Italian Republic in 1946, the Presidential Lancia Flaminia, as per tradition, accompanied the President of the Republic in the military parade, passing some of the capital’s iconic locations.

Since 1961, the Presidential Lancia Flaminia has been the official car of the President of the Italian Republic. Unveiled at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show and equipped with a 2.5-liter V6 engine, the Lancia Flaminia stood out as a flagship with prestigious interiors and finishes

To follow its successful sales figures, the model was quickly enhanced with special series, made by coachbuilders, then in 1961 Pinin Farina produced the long-wheelbase presidential cabriolet, known as “335”, indicating the dimensions of the wheelbase in centimeters. The landaulet – the typical bodywork of official cars with a hard roof over the front seats and an open top in the rear – was made in only four models, all equipped with a specific floor, ministerial blue livery, prestigious black Connolly leather upholstery, intercom and five rear seats.

The first VIP hosted in the new official car was Queen Elizabeth II, followed by figures such as John F. Kennedy, Charles de Gaulle (the Presidents of the U.S. and France respectively) and many other politicians, heads of state and sovereigns. It therefore became an ambassador of the Italian spirit around the world.

The Presidential Lancia Flaminia is one of the nine cars to have inspired the design of the brand’s future cars, in terms of its streamlined forms, made up of aerodynamics, sustainability and fluidity of volumes.
