“Timely, engaging and beautifully written memoir. I thoroughly enjoyed Wyllie’s timely, engaging, and beautifully written memoir. I loved following her journey from growing up in England during World War II, to studying at the University of St. Andrews, where she met her husband, Peter, to their move to America in the 1950s. It is a timely retrospective given the current state of the world and I highly recommend it to all readers, especially those interested in history.” - Elizabeth Austin

From Ida B Wells to Polk Street, fairgoers will find pleasant, if not excellent, literary works at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2024 (PRLF). This year’s festival will take place from September 7 to 8, 2024, between 10 AM and 6 PM. The PRLF is widely known as the largest outdoor literary showcase in the Midwest, attracting over 100,000 visitors.

There is no better time for fairgoers to check out the memoir “From There to Here: War, Peace, Pandemic: A Memoir” by Romy Wyllie than the PRLF. In the book, Romy shares life experiences surrounding the recent 2020 global pandemic and also growing up in a time that was difficult for all: World War II.

Her usual joyful childhood suddenly became interrupted by the war, bringing with it pain and terror to families. Just like World War II, the recent global pandemic brought immense crucial changes to the lives of many. While they may differ, they share the same truth in bringing challenges.

Romy wrote “From There to Here: War, Peace, Pandemic” to fill her time productively during the isolation period amid the pandemic. In life, many matters are beyond anybody’s control. The good news is that while they may be beyond control, everyone holds the power through how they react to them, similar to Romy, who utilized the quarantine period to write and share her life with the world through her book.
