Social Commentary Author Dee Bostic Set to Exhibit New Novel About Single Parenthood at Printers Row Lit Fest 2024

Dee Bostic has spent much of her career working in healthcare as a medical technologist but has always been eager to work on her creative writing skills throughout that time. In recent years, she has begun publishing novels that reflect her life as well as a number of social issues including inequality, America’s healthcare system, and the African-American perspective. At this year’s Printers Row Lit Fest, she has a new novel to exhibit titled “3000 Miles Of Separation.”

“This was a great read! It was exciting and compelling. I loved how the characters and the story came to life. I hope that more is to come!” – Sherri Diggs

The Printers Row Lit Fest is one of the largest outdoor book exhibits in America. Much of this size comes from how it wishes to be very inclusive, inviting a wide range of authors from various walks of life.

And for new novelist Dee Bostic, it’s the kind of publishing convention where books like hers are right at home.

Bostic is the author of several books that blend together intense emotional drama with true-to-life explorations of America’s social problems. Many of her stories touch upon issues such as inequality, mental health, and the impact it has on people’s interconnected relationships.

This year, she’s released another novel that’s dedicated to the struggles of single mothers and the many heartbreaking circumstances that lead to their situation.

Titled “3000 Miles Of Separation,” the book is slated to exhibit at the lit fest in the hopes that it will make for a great read among visitors while also increasing their awareness of its themes.

“3000 Miles Of Separation” follows Beverly, a woman who had spent three years waiting to marry her man Daryl upon his return from military service. Tragically, however, Daryl returns only to abandon her as well as their son, Ryan. Much of the story’s plot focuses on Beverly’s flight to find some anchor to support her new single-parent household as well as the years when Ryan eventually grows into boyhood.

The story also touches upon the all-too-difficult topic of when children in such households start asking about their absentee fathers, as well as the struggle of single mothers who must explore their own painful memories just to give their children proper answers.

Readers eager for stories with such themes can find “3000 Miles Of Separation” displayed at the ReadersMagnet exhibit during the 2024 Printers Row Lit Fest. The festival will be held at its historic site of Printers Row Park, 620 S Dearborn St (Ida B Wells & Polk), Chicago, Illinois, on September 7-8, 2024.

After graduating from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington Dee began her career as a Medical Technologist. She spent many years working as a generalist in Chemistry, Hematology Immunology and Blood Bank and several more as a Phlebotomy and Night Shift supervisor. She loves the challenges of being a Medical Technologist and came full circle after accepting an evening shift position for the Microbiology Department at The National Institutes of Health. One of her lifelong ambitions has always been to write novels. After spending sixteen years in Washington State and relocating to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, she noted the differences between the two, and felt she had a unique perspective on being African American in a predominately White society. This became the driving force for this novel. Her other interests include organic gardening, reading, traveling, and working with senior citizens.
