Pete Fleck’s Newly-Published Novel “Angel Templar” Will Be Displayed at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2024

One of the biggest draws of the Printers Row Lit Fest (PRLF) is that it welcomes major bestsellers right alongside independent authors who are eager to showcase their passion projects. Many of these writers include retirees who have found a new calling in telling stories inspired by their own experiences. Among them is veteran Pete Fleck who had just published a novel titled “Angel Templar,” which follows the life of a former army medic grappling with both strange visions and PTSD.

“The characters in this relatively short book are interesting. From Kyle’s best friend, to the teacher and even his obnoxious father, I could see and hear them trying to work through the aftermath of the various situations. The questions are hard. How do we cope with our human limitations? What if you can’t save everyone? What if my friends or children lose their lives? And how do we go on?” – Amazon review by Anthony W. May

For every book by a celebrity author and every bestseller at the Printers Row Lit Fest, there are also a dozen more books written by ordinary people who also want to share their stories. Some of these even include veterans like Pete Fleck, who don’t shy from using their military experience to color the themes of their passion projects.

Fleck is the author of “Angel Templar,” a book he just published this year. It tells the story of Kyle “Angel” Templar, a former Army Ranger medic who still can’t refuse the call to save people. Despite this, the story shows just how much his calling is simultaneously a struggle as he grapples with the reality of failure in the line of duty.

It’s a trauma he revisits both in his memories of his time in the military and then in the present day when he inadvertently fails to save lives after a catastrophic school shooting. Complicating matters further is the strange vision of an entity that never seems to leave him alone. Still, hope is not lost as he finds support from his friends and his therapist as well as a new woman in his life.

The themes “Angel Templar” certainly mirror much of Fleck’s own experience. His career spanned not only the 27 years serving the Brownsburg Police Department but also the 24 years in the active army, U.S. Army Reserves and National Guard. Still, he’s not afraid to flex his creative (and even comedic) chops in his book.

Those passing by this year’s Printers Row Lit Fest can check out “Angel Templar” on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The outdoor book showcase event will still be at its historic venue of Printers Row Park on September 7-8, 2024. The book is available on Amazon.
