Itabus travels with Enilive’s biofuel, 100% made from renewable raw materials

Rome – WEBWIRE

Itabus, an Italian transport company, is now using Enilive’s HVOlution diesel biofuel to power its fleet of next-generation buses.   The new agreement strengthens the collaboration between Enilive, Eni’s company focused on mobility products and services, and Itabus, a long-distance coach transport company that has been part of the Italo group since last May.

The agreement, which follows a prior  agreement made by the two companies in 2021, aims to strengthen and enhance the shared commitment of Itabus and Enilive to sustainable mobility. Under the new agreement, 100 Itabus buses will use Enilive’s HVOlution diesel to transport passengers around Italy. HVOlution is Enilive’s diesel biofuel, which is100% made from renewable raw materials, in compliance with the European Renewable Energy Directive. The fuel is produced at Enilive’s biorefineries in Venice and Gela, mainly by processing waste products, including used cooking oils and animal fat, as well as residue from the agri-food industry. HVOlution is a hydrogenated vegetable oil suitable for all approved engines* and is also available at over 1,000 Enilive service stations.

Itabus, with its fleet of 100 latest-generation buses, considers sustainability as one of its key pillars. The company, which recently unveiled a range of new initiatives, currently serves 14 regions, offering 500 departures daily from over 85 Italian cities. Major cities, strategic infrastructure hubs (such as high-speed rail stations and airports), small villages and tourist destinations are connected daily to ensure shared, safe, and comfortable travel.

Giovanni Maffei, Head of Commercial and Marketing at Enilive, commented: “The decarbonization of road transport, especially of vehicles used for passenger transport, is a significant challenge for the ecological transition. We are proud that Itabus, a major Italian mobility operator, has chosen to tackle this challenge together with Enilive by using HVOlution. Taking the entire product supply chain of HVOlution, which primarily involves reusing waste as part of a circular economy approach, emissions are reduced compared to traditional fossil fuel and the fuel requires no infrastructure modifications. International forecasts anticipate growing demand for hydrogenated biofuels in the coming years. To meet this demand, Enilive plans to increase its biorefining capacity to over 5 million tonnes per year by 2030.”

Francesco Fiore, CEO of Itabus, commented: “We have a 360o state-of-the-art bus fleet and sustainability has always been central to our strategy. We have extended our partnership with Enilive because we share the same goals and vision. As Itabus, we are constantly working to adopt solutions that can contribute to reducing emissions and environmental impact. Buses are one of the most widely used public transport methods, and we are also implementing intermodal solutions with trains to connect the country’s strategic hubs and ensure efficient mobility services for citizens.”

The supply of HVOlution to Itabus vehicles, as well as the ability to use services at Enilive Stations, is managed through Multicard, Enilive’s fuel card system for managing products and services for small, medium, and large fleets.
