Teddy Solomon to Speak at Web Summit 2024 About Fizz Marketplace and the Changing Trends of Gen Z Peer-to-Peer Commerce

Fizz co-founder Teddy Solomon will join the inaugural Commerce Summit to discuss Fizz’s new marketplace feature and Gen Z’s movement away from legacy commerce sites

San Francisco, CA – WEBWIRE

Fizz, the social media platform created by Gen Z for Gen Z to bring people together in an authentic way, today announces that co-founder and COO Teddy Solomon will take the stage at Web Summit 2024, the largest technology event in the world.

Solomon will join the inaugural Commerce Summit, a stage that will bring together leaders and innovators from retail, supply chain, e-commerce and logistics to explore the current consumer landscape and predict how brands do business and interact with their customers. Solomon will be discussing Fizz’s new marketplace feature.

Solomon and his co-founder Ashton Cofer started Fizz in 2020 as Freshmen at Stanford. Plagued by feelings of loneliness and a lack of connection with their classmates, the two co-founders built Fizz to encourage Gen Z to exchange information about events and school culture, acting as the common denominator for students finding their footing on a new college campus. Users have the option to post anonymously, encouraging authenticity and an equal playing field among students. Now, Fizz has raised $41.5M and is active on 240 college campuses, and the marketplace is the latest feature bringing delight to users.

Each Fizz community is private and only available to verified students, creating a trusted community of users who are not only geographically co-located but also share a common experience of being at the same school. Unlike legacy peer-to-peer commerce sites such as Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and eBay, which involve interacting with strangers, users on Fizz can feel safe buying and selling from each other because of these common credentials.

Just a few months after rollout, the marketplace has seen over 50,000 listings and 150,000 direct messages. Demonstrating a strong sense of trust, on average, sellers have just two people reach out to them before they make a deal, finding no hesitation to sell when it’s going to someone nearby on campus. Students buy and sell items like textbooks, concert tickets, furniture, clothing, and more, making Fizz Marketplace the go-to destination for everything they need for campus life.

“Gen Z has a love of thrifting and second-hand resale platforms, but they want the experience to be safe and easy. The days of buying and selling from strangers are over. Our users love Fizz Marketplace because they trust who they are buying from and selling to, and they have convenient access to all of the college essentials,” said Teddy Solomon, co-founder and COO of Fizz. “Students love Fizz because of the comradery and sense of connection, but also for its utility. The Marketplace is just the latest feature to bring value to our users.”

At Web Summit, Solomon will expand on the genesis of Fizz Marketplace and other retail trends he and his team observe from the Gen Z user base on the Fizz platform. Leaders from H&M Group, IKEA, Etsy and more will also speak on the Commerce Summit stage.
