  • The winners of the 1st Michelin Challenge Cup Revival are set to receive their awards on July 27, 2024 at Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne airport.

  • 142 pilots, Fédération Française Aéronautique (FFA) licensees, took part in the first edition all over France.

  • A prize-giving ceremony will champion flight safety and responsible aviation and acknowledge the stakeholders who made the competition possible.

On July 27, 2024, the Michelin Challenge Cup Revival awards and trophies will be presented to winners at Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne airport, in the presence of the competition’s partners: the Fédération Française Aéronautique (FFA), KRISTAL.air and VINCI Airports.

During the 2-month long competition, the Michelin Challenge Cup Revival recaptured the spirit of the pioneers of aviation by harking back to the Michelin Aviation Cup, a competition conceived by André Michelin in 1908, pitting the first aviators in history against one another.

The aim of the competition, that modernizes the pioneers’ challenges, was to promote a safe and responsible approach to aviation by means of 3 categories: combustion engine aircraft, electric planes and flying club.

The first edition of the Michelin Challenge Cup Revival brought together 142 participants. The pilots, who are affiliated with around one hundred committed French flying clubs, and who are FFA licensees, took part in the competition’s 6 challenges.

The pilots’ participation flights were digitally recorded via the KRISTA.air mobile application, the official partner of the Michelin Challenge Cup Revival. 184 participation flights were scrutinized by a committee comprising members of the Fédération Française Aéronautique, Michelin and KRISTAL.air. After analyzing the flights, the committee picked the competition winners.

The winners are as follows:

  • The Electric Aircraft Performance trophy: Françoise LUGAN –Royan Côte de Beauté Flying Club

  • The Combustion Engine Aircraft Pilot trophy: Philippe LEPETIT –Egletonnais Flying Club

  • The Flying Club trophy: Vichy Flying Club

The first two awards spotlight flight safety and innovation, while the third honors the most committed flying club.

The trophies, smaller versions of the 1908 Michelin Aviation Cup, pay tribute to a legendary competition of which the Michelin Challenge Cup Revival is the worthy successor.
