Myrna Denham Porter’s Book “The Blue House” Will Be Displayed at the 39th Annual Printers Row Lit Fest

The Blue House: An Elder’s Lifelong Search for Meaning and Purpose by Myrna Denham Porter is a compelling and insightful book that brings comfort to its readers. How so? The book reminds readers that it is okay to be human and act the way that humans should: perfectly imperfect.

Upon entering her 60s, Myrna Denham Porter became a co-founder of a nonprofit cancer support center in the Northwest Suburban Chicago area, while also actively being involved with the Palm Desert Middle School KARE (Kindness, Attention, Respect, and Excellence) program. Myrna is definitely someone to trust in such fields, as she has had a long experience of being a licensed clinical social worker and registered nurse.

Myrna was born in a remote section of Canada into a family of 16 children in poverty and grew up at the edge of the Canadian Prairies. She holds commitment, forgiveness, hard work, love, and persistence close to her heart. She had a difficult beginning, but she gained success in life and was able to make significant contributions to society, particularly in her career. Her good friend, Dr. Jacob Shefa, encouraged her to share her story through The Blue House.

The book will be displayed at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2024 by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet. Author’s Biography
Raised in poverty in remote Saskatchewan with 15 siblings, Myrna overcame significant obstacles to become a Registered Nurse and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. After her 1998 breast cancer diagnosis, she co-founded Wellness Place to support cancer survivors. Following her husband’s death from prostate cancer, she once again joined a partner and established The Greater Chicago Prostate Walk to aid prostate cancer patients. Myrna later embraced her challenging upbringing, appreciating the values of hard work and commitment instilled by her parents.
