Introducing Video Stories on Twitch
We launched Stories on Twitch last year to give you an easy way to stay top of mind and deepen connections with your community directly on Twitch by sharing photos, text, and clips that disappeared after 48 hours. Stories are easy to catch up on at any time, even when viewers’ schedules may not align with tuning in for a stream, proving that stories can be a powerful way to engage your community.
Today, we’re excited to add video to stories to give you more ways to create fun content that keeps your viewers coming back for more. And - to make sure no one misses the stories you create - we’re making it possible to watch stories on web so you can reach your viewers wherever they spend their time on Twitch.
More ways to share moments beyond your stream with video
Sometimes a photo or text just isn’t enough to tell the whole story. Starting today, you can film 60-second videos from your Twitch mobile app or upload a video from your camera roll and trim it down to capture the perfect moment. Personalize your video by pinching to resize it, adding text with @mentions, and emote stickers to bring it to life. Video access will roll out to all eligible streamers by the end of the week.
Need some inspiration on the types of moments to share? There are so many ways to make your stories work for you!
- Bring viewers with you when you’re on the go: Taking a break from your usual stream schedule or traveling to a fun event? Use stories to check in with a video update and take them behind the scenes with you. We loved seeing all the updates from TwitchCon Europe and from your IRL meet ups.
- Get your community involved & spread the love: Learn more about what your viewers want and think by asking a question on video and encouraging them to take a poll using the Reactions feature. Create personalized videos with @mentions to shout out new subs and viewers to make them feel welcome.
- Highlight moments from recent streams and keep them up to date about what’s next: Share clips and highlights of your recent streams for those who missed it, or post time-sensitive updates about schedule changes, upcoming guest streams or personal brand events.
Whether you choose to share a photo, video, clip, or work from one of our canvas backgrounds, we’re giving you more control over how long your stories stay up so you can post as much as you want without worrying about the content going stale. You can now set individual stories to expire after 1, 12, 24, or 48 hours. We know many of you use stories to let viewers know when you’re going live. Now you can set time-sensitive updates to expire in 1 or 12 hours and use the longer settings for content that will be relevant for one or two days, like “ICYMI” clips of your streams and updates about your personal projects.
Reach more viewers than ever with stories on web
Stories will now be viewable on web so you can reach more of your community where they spend their time. Viewers will be able to watch stories from streamers they follow in their left nav, on their following page, and from any streamer’s avatar on their channel page. We launched stories exclusively on the Twitch mobile app because we know most of our streamers create and share stories content in the moment and on-the-go, but your viewers may not always be using Twitch on mobile. Creation will remain limited to mobile for now, but viewers will be able to watch, like, and react to stories from both desktop and mobile so they never miss a moment.
We’ve also made it easier than ever for viewers who watch your stories on any surface to engage and give you feedback by letting them “like” your stories with a single tap via the new heart icon. Viewers can still long-press on the heart to open up the full suite of reactions.
We can’t wait to see what you create to share with your communities with these new updates. We’ll be keeping an eye out for the best stories to repost them from our own channel on /Twitch. Follow us here and turn on your notifications to see our stories and tag us @Twitch for a chance to be featured.
Our team is already working on more tools to help you enhance your content, including adding resharing to stories and exploring more ways for viewers to interact with your stories.
