London’s summer calendar is packed with some of the biggest events in sports, music and entertainment. From iconic “The Championships, Wimbledon” to the world-class lineup of musical acts at “American Express Presents BST Hyde Park” and the culinary delights of London Restaurant Festival, American Express Card Members are there for it all – and we’re right there with them. Across the city, throughout the summer, Amex is showing up in a big way to support our customers and communities in the moments that matter to them.
Here’s a look at some of the exceptional experiences we offered:
Wimbledon
As Official Payment Partner of The Championships, Wimbledon, American Express served up exclusive perks and interactive experiences for tennis fans:
- American Express Fan Experience & Card Member Lounge: Open to all visitors, the American Express Fan Experience included a gaming area for fans to show off their tennis skills, massage chairs for a quick relax-and-recharge moment, and a postcard station where they could send personalized notes, courtesy of Amex, anywhere in the world. Card Members and up to two guests could also relax at the American Express® Card Member Lounge, which included a private outdoor terrace and refreshments available for purchase.
- Amex Pavilion: Fans could soak up the atmosphere on the Hill, grab refreshments and put their tennis knowledge to the test for a chance to win prizes at the Amex Pavilion. A second-floor platform offered Card Members and their guests views across Wimbledon grounds and the London skyline.
- Limited-edition Zine: British pros Andy Murray and Katie Boulter helped fans get “READY” to make the most of Wimbledon with insider tips and stories in this zine created just for The Championships, with complimentary print copies available on the grounds and a digital version that was accessible online.
- Amex Radios: Card Members could tune into live commentary on all the action with complimentary Amex-branded radios for their use on site.
American Express Presents BST Hyde Park
Amex returned for the third year as headline sponsor of the London music festival American Express presents BST Hyde Park, featuring world-class acts such as SZA, Kings of Leon, Kylie, Andrea Bocelli, Robbie Williams, Stevie Nicks and more. Throughout the three-weekend long festival, attendees were welcome to immerse themselves in the Amex Experience and manifest their festival dreams. The Amex Experience included a night market featuring Shop Small merchants, photo moments in front of iconic music backdrops, and a bar offering elixir cocktails. Card Members and their guests could watch the live performances from a special viewing area.
Somerset House Summer Series
Set in the iconic, Grade 1 listed building overlooking the River Thames, the annual Somerset House Summer Series with American Express celebrated 11 days of live music in the open-air courtyard, ranging from hip-hop and R&B to alt-pop and rock. Through Amex®Experiences, Card Members enjoyed early ticket access and exclusive offers, such as 10% off food and drinks when they paid with their American Express Card, plus access to The Lounge with American Express on the River Terrace for a pre- and after-party.
London Restaurant Festival: Summer Edition 2024
American Express Card Members are passionate about discovering new cuisines, neighborhood hotspots and unique experiences, and this summer was no exception. London Restaurant Festival worked closely with Amex to showcase the city’s diverse food scene which saw Amex Card Members sitting down to Michelin-starred dinners, taking masterclasses, celebrating new culinary talent and enjoying street food, DJs, outdoor dining and more! American Express Card Members benefit from access to an exclusive Amex series Top Ten Cuisines as well as a ticket presale, so they don’t miss out on the fantastic dining events on offer.
Leadership Academy
London buzzed with extra energy the week of July 8, when 60 changemakers from 17 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa convened for the American Express Leadership Academy. This in-person experience, part of a six-month program developed exclusively for non-profit leaders, gathered participants for inspiring conversations about how to lead with resilience and deepen their community impact.
Panel discussions featured UN Goodwill Ambassador Sabrina Dhowre Elba, Hilton Chief Marketing Officer Mark Weinstein, co-founder of the Social Impact Club, The Conduit, Paul van Zyl, Sky TV presenter and motorsport racing driver Naomi Schiff, Common Purpose Executive Adirupa Sengupta and several executives of American Express: Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Jennifer Skyler and American Express Foundation President Madge Thomas, Chief Marketing Officer Elizabeth Rutledge, and Chief Partner Officer Glenda McNeal.
Elizabeth Rutledge and Sabrina Elba kicked off the week in a conversation around purposeful leadership, Naomi Schiff and Jen Skyler spoke about driving change and Glenda McNeal and Mark Weinstein wrapped up the action in a conversation about resilience in leadership.
