Dark Fantasy Author Clarence Causby All Set to Showcase Newest Work at the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair

The Frankfurt Book Fair is one of the largest publishing events in the world. It’s a fair that showcases both the biggest names in their genres right alongside many more independent authors who have taken the bold step of turning their passion and interests into stories of their own.

One recent example is Clarence Causby, a new dark fantasy author who managed to successfully publish his own gritty novel and is already set to exhibit his work during this prestigious fair.

The title of his book is “Erebus the Ranger,” and it tells a tale that doesn’t hide its countless influences from contemporary fantasy geek culture.

The story takes place in the Kingdom of Sarnis, a land previously ruled by a beloved and benevolent king. Yet when this king passed away, he was succeeded by the cruel Thaddeus and his tyrannical cronies. The titular Erebus is a child, born from parents kicked out of their home on Thaddeus’ petty whims.

Things come to a head when the Torturer, the right-hand man of the evil king, crosses paths with Erebus and kills his childhood friend. The story then follows Erebus’ path to vengeance as he grows strong, lurking beneath the eyes of King Thaddeus, all while gathering like-minded allies who will eventually put an end to the avaricious monarch.

“Erebus the Ranger” is a story packed with plenty of familiar tropes, descriptive visuals, and a grim atmosphere that should appeal to many fans of today’s popular dark fantasy. After all, Causby himself is a huge fan of many similar stories from comic books as well as manga and anime. He’s read “Eminence in Shadow,”” “Overlord,” and other light novels that have shot up in the pop culture charts in recent years. On top of that, he clearly shows the influences he’s drawn from video games like “Baldur’s Gate,” “Dragon Age,” and “Diablo.”
