Julie Yetter’s In-Depth Women’s Novel on Generational Trauma and Self-Discovery Now Slated for PRLF Exhibit

For many years, Julie Yetter worked as an English educator with a passion for using literature to inspire her students. In recent years, she’s taken it up a notch by becoming a fully-fledged published author with her own novel “Awake O Sleeper.” The book is now set to exhibit at the Printers Row Lit Fest, RLF, Chicago’s massive outdoor book showcase. It is her hope that it resonates with the reader as they face their own generational traumas on the journey of self-discovery.

Like many English teachers, Julie Yetter has always had a passion for reading and loved inspiring her students with the power of creative literature and expression. Still, following her teaching and speaking career, she’s taken the next step by becoming a published author in her own right.

She kicked this off with not just the release of her book “Awake O Sleeper: Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Others,” but also arranging its exhibition at the upcoming Printers Row Lit Fest 2024, happening on September 7-8, 2024, at Printers Row Park, 620 S Dearborn St (Ida B Wells & Polk), Chicago, Illinois.

Yetter’s “Awake O Sleeper” aims to not only be an engaging read but also instill a sense of self-discovery in readers. Its plot follows not one but four women representing different generations of one family. Its main protagonist, Faith, lives in the present day, and she is as troubled as a good number of women in the 21st century. She suffers from drug dependency and a self-destructive lifestyle and eventually awakens in a psychiatric ward.

Still, the plot isn’t quite linear as readers will find themselves going back in time at various points whenever Faith recalls a story passed down from her mother, as well as her grandmother and great-grandmother before her. In that way, the book is also an exploration of generational trauma, and how its cycles can be broken by truly understanding oneself no matter what the past says.

Those interested in Julie Yetter’s work can get themselves acquainted by checking out “Awake O Sleeper: Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Others” during the 2024 Printers Row Lit Fest. The book will be displayed at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit at booth space C and D. The book is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
