Gives so much logical advice and answers many questions about why children struggle academically. I like that it’s not too technical and is easy to understand. It’s a must read for any parent dealing with these challenges. It provides valuable insight for educators, as well. - Amazon review by CV

Author Bio
Debra graduated from St. Xavier with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She then got her M.A. in special education. Debra began her career as a classroom teacher and became a special education resource teacher. In 1987, Debra gave birth to her daughter, who ended up being severely dyslexic. Even with her M.A. in hand, she could not teach her daughter to read until she found a specific reading program designed for dyslexia. Within a week, her daughter began to read. At that time, Debra’s daughter was in the middle of third grade, and by 6th grade, she was at grade level. It was then that Debra began to tutor students in reading. She was so successful that moms began to talk. As Debra became too busy to work with all the students coming her way, she hired more teachers to help her. Debra and four other teachers taught at home for nine years. At that time, she opened a storefront and founded Connections Learning Center. It is still there today after 20 years.
