Vox Media announced a podcast partnership with veteran journalist Peter Kafka, who will bring back his acclaimed media and technology show. Relaunching as Channels, the show will bring audiences weekly conversations with industry leaders, upstarts, and observers, about the areas where media, entertainment and technology collide. Vox Media will assume production, sales, marketing, and distribution duties for the show, which will return.

“I have the best job! I get to talk to smart, interesting people who run things — or who know how things are run — about all the stuff I care about: How and why the things on your screens got there,” says Kafka. “We always say that media, tech and business are always changing — but they are really, really changing right now. This show is for people who want to understand why, and what happens next.”

One of the industry’s most acclaimed reporters and interviewers, Peter Kafka is chief correspondent at Business Insider, where he covers media and technology. He joined Business Insider from Vox, where he wrote about everything from the streaming wars, the fight for dominance between the major technology giants, and the transformation of media. At Vox, Kafka was host of the Recode Media (now Channels), as well as three seasons of Vox Media’s Land of the Giants podcast, covering Netflix, Apple, and Twitter/X. Kafka has covered the media industry since 1997 and interviewed high-profile executives including Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, YouTube CEO Susan Wojciki, Twitter cofounders Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams, director Steven Soderbergh, and more.

“Peter is one of the best journalists covering media and tech today,” says Vox Media’s SVP and general manager for audio and digital video, Ray Chao. “We’ve been lucky to have worked with Peter for many years across multiple shows, and are excited to have him behind the mic once again with Channels.”

At Vox Media, Channels will take its place among an industry-leading lineup of business and technology podcasts including Pivot (hosted by journalist Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway), Waveform (hosted by Marques Brownlee), Decoder (hosted by The Verge’s editor-in-chief Nilay Patel), The Prof G Pod and Prof G Markets (hosted by Galloway), The Vergecast, and more. A top 10 podcast publisher according to leading industry tracker, Podtrac, Vox Media is home to influential talent across categories and most recently announced partnerships with world champion athletes Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe and reigning NFL “Man of the Year” Cam Heyward, among others.

The trailer for Channels is out today and available here. The first episode of the show will be live tomorrow, featuring an interview with New Yorker editor David Remnick, who was also the show’s first guest back when it launched in 2016.
