Today there exist many global sets of codified standards (norms) that we do not all agree on, e.g. evolution, gender differences, sharing of resources, protecting what might our future be, as teachers are burdened with the wisdom to pass on, to create and inspire and not to only be the myriad of topics they are skilled in, thus it’s a big shoe to fill, yet a very rewarding one.

Finally, not only is teaching burdened with many challenges, but it is meaningful employment and most importantly ----- Fun! Encouraging each other to bring back that sunshine in the four corners of a classroom can magnify its very existence by radiating its clear and precise purpose and that it to keep on creating and making the world a better place to live in.

After military service I got into math/science teacher ed biz and have through six decades witnessed the frustrations of teacher training institutions. To add to the conundrum, how does society, through its various public and private agencies, support schools on these issues? Keep in mind it is our species survival that is up for grabs.”

This brings up accreditation – like who is accrediting the accreditors? Accreditation should reflect the all-encompassing role of education, not simply ABC’s. So who accredits survival standards? We all play a role in our society thus the law of relativity, thus we work hand in hand to make things possible to achieve and to ensure the survival of the worldly teaching profession.

About the Author

Viggo Pete Hansen was born to homesteading Danish-speaking immigrants on the dusty plains of Plentywood, Montana. During the depression his family moved to Askov, MN. He was educated in Askov, Des Moines, IA and the University of Minnesota. Pilot at the age of 20. He served as an Air Force nuclear weapons officer during Korean conflict.

From his first moments in the classroom teaching algebra he was exhilarated and hooked. He spent his career; teaching math/science/education courses, assisting student teachers, directing graduate courses, locally and in International schools. He is currently an emeritus professor and administrator from Cal State, Northridge, CA.

Hansen’s passion for teaching is based on years in classrooms and knowing from military experience how truly fragile human survival has become. Teaching is the premiere profession that can lead to a happy, long and rewarding life for everyone. But educators can’t do it alone.
