Joe Lycett to inaugurate ‘International Day of Birmingham’ on 24th September, uniting all Birminghams across the globe
On Tuesday 24th September, Joe Lycett will be in his beloved Birmingham, armed with a fistful of Friendship Agreements acquired during his road-trip around the US visiting 10 other Birminghams as part of Sky’s new original entertainment series Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham. As the Lord Mayor’s chosen ambassador, Joe has united Birmingham, Birmingham and all the other Birminghams across North America. This historic alliance will be celebrated on Tuesday 24th September and every year from this day forth and shall be known as the International Day of Birmingham.
As part of his diplomatic mission, Joe has collected the signatures of officials from all the Birminghams and ahead of the public celebrations, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham UK will countersign the Friendship Agreements.
It wouldn’t be a homecoming without a parade. Joe and his assortment of new Brummie buddies will make their way through the crowds, led by an array of Birmingham bred talent – from a roaming brass band, cheerleaders, dhol drummers, stilt walkers, and many more surprise performers.
The celebrations for the International Day of Birmingham will commence at 3pm in Victoria Square and are open to all Brummies (or honorary Brummies!) to come along and soak up the party atmosphere. Get the date in your diary, it’s gonna be bostin, bab!

Joe Lycett said: ’’International Day of Birmingham should be something we already celebrate, but I am thrilled to be joining the Lord Mayor in our inaugural celebration. I have travelled thousands of miles around niche and rural parts of America to help create this lasting legacy for our city, and all the other places in the world fortunate enough to be called Birmingham.’’
