Vox Media announced a podcast partnership with basketball star Lonzo Ball, who will bring his sports and culture show, What an Experience, to SB Nation. Co-hosted with his brother, LiAngelo Ball, and childhood friends, Darren Moore and Anthony Salazar, What an Experience offers audiences hang time with top athletes off-duty as they talk family, sports, music, and more. Coming on the heels of a buzzy first season that garnered a cult following on YouTube after only ten episodes, Vox Media and SB Nation will partner with What an Experience on a new season of the show, which will launch on Friday, October 4th and run through fall of next year. In the new season, the show will lean into fan-favorite segments and introduce special guests, football commentary, and an inside chronicle of Lonzo’s highly anticipated return to basketball. Vox Media will assume sales, marketing and distribution duties for the show, which will ramp up its frequency to weekly and publish episodes and clips across podcast and video platforms including YouTube, Apple, Spotify, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

What an Experience is a labor of love for me and the guys, and we’ve been blown away by audience and fan reactions so far,” says Lonzo Ball. “As the show returns, we’ll give fans a front-row seat to my return to the court and dive into everything from the latest football and basketball games to the albums we’re playing on repeat. It’s a game changer to do it with partners like Vox Media and SB Nation, who have deep roots in sports, and the expertise and infrastructure to support what we’re building in this new chapter.”

Lonzo Ball is a professional basketball player for the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. In 2017, he was drafted in the 1st round of the NBA Draft by the L.A. Lakers, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2018. Off the court, he’s a rapper and musician who has produced two studio albums and appeared in programs like The Masked Singer and Ball in the Family.

LiAngelo Ball is a professional basketball player who most recently played for the NBA G-League team, Greensboro, owned by the Charlotte Hornets. Known for his eclectic sense of style, Ball has become a fashion trendsetter. Darren Moore is a former college and professional basketball player who currently manages Lonzo. In addition to his role in sports management, Moore is also a successful clothing designer for his high fashion brand, Moore, creating custom designs for pro athletes. Anthony Salazar is a celebrity fitness trainer.

“When What an Experience launched earlier this year, we were immediately drawn to the candor and genuine friendship at the heart of each episode,” says Vox Media’s executive director for the podcast business, Lillian Xu. “After meeting Lonzo at a National Basketball Players Association event and hearing about his ambitions first-hand, we were even more excited to work together. We can’t wait to build on the show’s organic momentum this upcoming season.”

“We’re incredibly excited that Lonzo and the whole What an Experience crew are bringing their unique voices to SB Nation,” says SB Nation Head of Content, John Ness. “Together, they have the kind of rapport it can take a lifetime to build. Their passion and knowledge for basketball, football, fashion and beyond are a brilliant fit.”

At Vox Media, Ball and his co-hosts will join a top 10 podcast network (according to leading industry tracker, Podtrac), and take their place among some of the most influential voices across content categories including world champion athletes Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe (A Touch More: The Podcast), journalist Kara Swisher and entrepreneur Scott Galloway (Pivot), psychotherapist Esther Perel (Where Should We Begin?), Pittsburgh Steelers team captain and reigning NFL “Man of the Year” Cam Heyward (Not Just Football), research professor Brené Brown (Unlocking Us), former Manhattan U.S. attorney Preet Bharara (Stay Tuned), tech reviewer Marques Brownlee (Waveform: The MKBHD Podcast) and more.

Meanwhile, at SB Nation, which reaches 27 million loyal sports fans per month and is home to 21 dedicated NBA communities, What an Experience will join a roster of sports franchises that includes Heyward’s Not Just Football, Secret Base, the award-winning and critically acclaimed YouTube channel, and more.
