Sony to Exhibit at CEATEC 2024
Showcasing Imaging and Sensing Technologies that Deliver Kando Experiences and Make Society More Safe and Secure Through Cross-Industry Collaboration
Sony Group Corporation (Sony) today announced that it will be exhibiting at CEATEC 2024, which will be held at Makuhari Messe in Mihama-ku, Chiba City from October 15th to 18th, 2024. Under the theme of "Hello, Sensing World" Sony will showcase imaging and sensing technologies that help to deliver Kando (emotion) experiences as well as those that help make society more safe and secure through cross-industry collaboration.
Driven by Sony’s purpose to "fill the world with emotion, through the power of creativity and technology" Sony aims to unleash the creativity of creators worldwide and contribute to society through its diverse businesses and technologies. Among these, the image sensor, also known as "electronic eyes" have continued to evolve as imaging technology capable of capturing images of various everyday scenes. Furthermore, it has advanced into a sensing technology that can recognize people and spaces, and when integrated with various other technologies, it has become a core technology that supports society. At this year’s CEATEC, Sony will showcase diverse imaging and sensing technologies that have become part of our daily life through hands-on exhibits. Visitors can experience cutting-edge technologies and solutions that deliver new discoveries and Kando to people in a wide range of fields, including mobility and entertainment, and visitors can experience cutting-edge technologies and solutions that contribute to a more secure society.
Main ExhibitsCapturing the moment with image sensorsDiscover the various products powered by Sony’s image sensors, which support the creation of many people from filmmakers to smartphone users around the world.
Going beyond human vision with imaging and sensing technologyThe latest image sensor technology makes it possible to capture a diverse range of phenomena that the human eye cannot perceive. Visitors can enjoy learning through simulated experience how image sensors, which can detect various light of wavelengths and capture fast-moving objects without distortion, capture the world.
Enabling new forms of entertainment in virtual spaces with sensing technology for XR applicationsSpatial sensing technology is also being used by creators for new forms of entertainment. By using image sensors that can measure the distance to objects in three dimensions, applications can accurately track the delicate movements of a person’s fingers, joints, upper body, and entire body, and replicate them in real-time in an avatar in a virtual space.
Leveraging AI and sensing technology to create high-efficiency, sustainable spatial recognition solutionsBy combining image sensors and AI, it is possible to utilize various information contained in captured images to help solve social issues. In this demonstration, AI embedded in the image sensor analyzes and processes the images captured by the sensor in real time, displaying only the necessary information to be grasped. By completing AI processing within the edge sensor, it is possible to output and transmit only the necessary information, reducing network data load as well as power consumption, and contributes to the safe and sustainable utilization of data while also addressing privacy concerns.
Deciphering marine environments with underwater 3D sensingSony is deploying advanced sensing technology not only on land but also in the ocean to conduct research aimed at visualizing marine environments.* This exhibit introduces an experiment in which an underwater drone equipped with Sony’s image sensors and 3D spatial sensing technology was used to ascertain the habitat distribution of coral and seaweed beds, and generate 3D models using sensing data.
*Joint research with Hokkaido University and FullDepth Co., Ltd. The underwater drone used is a product of FullDepth Co., Ltd.
Enhancing mobility safety and cabin experience with sensing technology[p"Safety Cocoon" is a safety concept that aims to enhance vehicle safety in various everyday driving scenes by detecting the 360-degree surroundings of a vehicle and supporting early evasive actions. Here, visitors can experience how Sony’s diverse sensing technologies support this concept.[/p]Many other initiatives note listed above are also available on-site and online.
