Learn about the Mario & Luigi series before their upcoming adventure!

WEBWIRE

The Mario & Luigi™: Brothership game is launching on Nov. 7! You’ll be able to set sail on Shipshape Island (part ship, part island—all adventure!) with the mustachioed brothers as they journey across the vast, unfamiliar world of Concordia.

What’s that? You’ve never played a game from the Mario & Luigi series? That’s OK—previous games in this series aren’t required to enjoy Mario & Luigi: Brothership. You’ll be able to jump right in and experience the red and green-clad brothers working together to face whatever comes their way!

You can check out a quick timeline of the brothers’ past adventures, then scroll down a bit more to learn about some of the features the series has become known for.

So, what type of games are these?

Like previous games in the series, Mario & Luigi: Brothership is an action-adventure RPG (role-playing game) where you’ll control BOTH brothers—at the same time! In each game, they explore different places, go on quests, and—perhaps more importantly—use their brotherly bond to help folks who need assistance.

Are there battles like in other RPGs?

Now, Mario and Luigi aren’t the kind of fellows who go lookin’ for trouble—they’re more of the helpful types. But when baddies start their rabblerousing, the brothers are ready to put up their dukes and work together in turn-based combat.

Each brother has a chance to act against enemies, but they can increase the amount of damage they do by bringing the other brother into the action to deliver quite a wallop! We won’t get too deep into that now, but please keep an eye out on your Nintendo Switch News feed for our article covering the battle system in Mario & Luigi: Brothership!

Get ready for some ha-has and guffaws!

If there’s one thing the series is known for, it’s the laughs! Mario & Luigi: Brothership continues the ha-has* with fun new characters, including a flying creature named Snoutlet who is quite adamant that they’re not a pig (but clearly looks like a pig). There’s also lots of wacky moments with the brothers…but mostly with Luigi (how does he get himself into these situations?!).

From punny names to lighthearted jokes, these games are packed with moments to tickle your funny bone.

Wait, you could play the first game now?

Did you know that if you have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership**, you can play the original Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga game now? You can get a feel for what’s in store by takin’ it all the way back to where the RPG series started.

We hope this article has given you a better sense of what you can expect when Mario & Luigi: Brothership launches on Nov. 7. Check back soon for even more articles where we’ll get into the nitty gritty of the game.
