Mitsubishi Chemical Group Expands Production Capacity for Ion Exchange Resins Used in the Production of Ultrapure Water for Semiconductors

WEBWIRE

The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (the MCG Group) has decided to increase its production capacity of ion exchange resins used to produce ultrapure water for use in semiconductor manufacturing processes at Mitsubishi Chemical’s Kyushu-Fukuoka Plant in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The upgraded facilities are scheduled to go into operation in April 2026.

Ion exchange resins are synthetic resins used in the water treatment field that function to selectively remove and collect ionic impurities from water. The MCG Group’s ion exchange resins come in a wide range of types and are used in various applications, including the production of industrial water such as soft water and pure water, the refining of pharmaceuticals and food products, and the production of ultrapure water for semiconductors.

With the expansion of the semiconductor market in recent years, there has been a corresponding increase in demand for ion exchange resins used to produce ultrapure water for use in semiconductor manufacturing processes. The MCG Group’s ion exchange resins are suitable for producing ultrapure water, which is required to be clean for semiconductor cleaning processes and other applications. Given this situation, we have decided to expand our production capacity to meet increasing domestic and international demand. Among existing facilities at the Kyushu-Fukuoka Plant, the refining facilities will be upgraded and are scheduled to go into operation in April 2026.

The MCG Group’s water treatment separation and refining business boasts many years of experience and a wide product lineup, and is able to respond to various needs. We will continue to grow our business by expanding into the semiconductor and medical fields, where we can take advantage of such high-quality characteristics.
