The President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi meets Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi
The President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met today with Eni Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi to follow up on Eni’s ongoing activities in the country and discuss areas of common interest and collaboration. Also in attendance were Egyptian Oil Minister Karim Badawi and Eni’s Global Natural Resources Chief Operating Officer Guido Brusco.
During the meeting, Eni’s activities in the country were discussed with a focus on initiatives, both onshore and offshore, aimed at supporting natural gas production and exploring its broad portfolio of assets. Egypt’s central role in developing a gas hub in the eastern Mediterranean was also highlighted given the presence of important gas processing and LNG export infrastructures in the country.
Moreover, referring to the energy transition path, the Eni CEO outlined the company’s commitment to accelerate the decarbonization activities including methane emissions reduction, energy efficiency solutions and renewables.
The visit was also an opportunity to recall the 70th anniversary of Eni’s presence in Egypt, which was, in 1954, the first country outside of Italy with which the company began working.
Eni operates through its subsidiary IEOC and is currently the country’s leading producer with an equity production of hydrocarbons of approximately 318,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in Eni’s share in 2023.
