CEVA Logistics, TotalEnergies, inaugurate large solar panel installation in France
58,000 Solar panels with a total output of 28.5 MWp (megawatt peak), equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 15,000 people
CEVA Logistics, together with TotalEnergies, inaugurated a solar shading power plant composed of 58,000 panels with a total output of 28.5 MWp (megawatt peak), producing 34 GWh (gigawatt hour), equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 15,000 people. Installed at the CEVA Logistics facility in Blyes, the solar power plant aims to locally produce and distribute low carbon electricity.
A major project for the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regionThe commissioning of the photovoltaic shade structures in Blyes is the largest of its type to date for TotalEnergies in France. The photovoltaic solar structure covers nearly 70 acres and is estimated to produce 34 GWh (gigawatt hour) annually and reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 10,000 tons per year. Beyond the production of low carbon electricity, the parking lot shade structures offer other benefits, such as enhanced vehicle protection from inclement weather and improved working conditions for employees at the facility.
Since 2021 and until its commissioning at the end of 2023, the construction of this installation took place in close collaboration with the CEVA Logistics teams and according to a schedule in several phases, in order to respect the operational constraints inherent to the activities present on the site.
Local production of renewable energyThe electricity produced by the new structure marks a significant step towards sustainable and local energy production for the region. CEVA Logistics is strongly committed to sustainable logistics and reducing the local impact of its activities through a wide variety of decarbonization initiatives and the production of renewable energy. To date, CEVA has installed more than 200 acres of solar panels across sites globally.
TotalEnergies’ regional activitiesTotalEnergies aims to become a major player in the energy transition in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve this, TotalEnergies is making large investments in low carbon energies, mainly electricity. With the photovoltaic shade structures, TotalEnergies is demonstrating their expertise in complex projects for the benefit of their customers and territories.
In the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, TotalEnergies operates 26 renewable energy production sites (wind, solar and hydroelectric), which represent an annual production of 166 GWh (gigawatt hour), the equivalent of the annual consumption of 75,000 people.
Marin de Montbel, Managing Director, TotalEnergies Renewables France, said: “At TotalEnergies, we are proud to support companies such as CEVA Logistics in their energy transition. This project illustrates our ability to respond to the industrial challenges of our customers and to deliver low carbon electricity production solutions while respecting high safety standards. We have successfully taken into consideration the constraints of maintaining logistics activity at the CEVA facility while contributing to local economic development and strengthening our roots in the region. This is the strength of our B2B approach: an industrialist serving industrialists.”
Philippe de Crécy, Director of European Institutional Relations, CEVA Logistics, said: “We are delighted with the implementation of this solar power plant project at our Blyes logistics facility and to actively participate in renewable energy on a local scale. Through this project, CEVA uses its parking areas intelligently to respond to the challenges of decarbonization of our activities and energy transition at a global level.”
